Two-photo field note
This case is a field note. The archive holds two photographs from an active installation, so the record stays close to what those two frames actually carry: placement, and a surface still advancing.
That is a narrow window, and it is worth keeping narrow. A short record told accurately is more useful than a long one padded out with a story the photographs do not support.

Placement in progress
Placement is the part of an installation that looks repetitive and is not.
Each piece has to seat fully into the one before it. A plank that is engaged along most of its length but not all of it will sit down, look correct and pass a glance, and the gap it leaves will open up weeks later once the floor has been walked on. That is why the work is checked as it advances rather than at the end of the room.
The other thing a close frame shows is the joint pattern. Pieces are staggered so that end joints in adjacent rows do not line up, both because a repeating step reads as a manufactured grid instead of a floor and because staggered joints spread load across more of the surface.
Neither of those is visible once the room is furnished. They are decided here, at this distance, one piece at a time.
Placement
The field note documents pieces being placed as the surface advances, at the distance where seating and joint pattern are still something you can verify.

Once a run is closed, correcting a piece means opening the floor back to it. That single fact governs how an installation is paced: the crew moves at the speed of verification, not at the speed of coverage.
